Taiwan Plans to Give Permanent Residency to their Foreign Workers and Students

Taiwan is now encouraging people to work and stay in their country by granting permanent residency to their existing foreign workers and students. As of posting, Taiwan is short by 218,000 manpower and 55% of it are medium-skilled jobs.

According to a report published by ABS CBN News, Taiwan is now on the works on creating a new immigration policy that gives the workers in Taiwan a permanent residency status, given that they have stayed in the country for no less than six years.

Based on POEA's data, a total of 65,000 overseas Filipino workers are in Taiwan which is over a 50% increase from 2010. Although this news encourages Filipinos to stay in a foreign country, this will also give more families a chance to have a better life. The proposed bill is expected to be approved no later than September of this year.

Some of the in-demand jobs in Taiwan today includes factory workers, caretakers, and interpreters. Many of the employers looking for Filipino workers have poster their job ads on Jobstreet.com.ph and WorkAbroad.ph.

Typical Salary of Factory Worker in Taiwan 

The jobs require 1 to 3 years of related experience, college graduate, and usually 20 years old and above. Factory workers have an average salary rate of 22000 NT while caretakers have 17000 average salaries.

Filipinos interested to work abroad must have the following requirements ready:

• Resume with detailed list of job experiences
• Philippine passport that is at least 6 months valid from date of travel.
• Credentials and documents from school such as diploma and transcript of record.
• Seminar and training certificates
• TESDA certificate 
• NBI Clearance
