Last Saturday, November 4, 2017, Winwyn Marquez was crowned as the Reina Hispanoamericano 2017. She is the very first Philippine bet to join and win the contest, all in the same year. She competed with 26 other contestants which are all celebrating their Hispanic heritage.
In the question and answer portion, Marquez was asked how she can promote the culture of Hispanic-American given the language barrier. She said “The Hispanic culture is not about language only. It’s about love for God, love for country, love for history and culture and love for family." On the same night, Karen Ibasco also won as Miss Earth 2017 which was held in Mall of Asia Arena. Unlike other beauty pageants, this one had contestants explain their opinions twice. One is to choose and express their opinion based on a hashtag and the second one to answer a question related to the environment. In both segments, Ms. Ibasco's answer showed her concern for the environment and her sincere efforts to protect mother earth.
Last but definitely not the least is Nelda Ibe who was named 1st runner-up in the Ms. Globe 2017 held last Friday. As the first runner-up, Ms. Philippines will take over the title should the crowned winner, Ms. Vietnam, fail to fulfill her duties. Her win is not really a surprise as she and Ms. Korea got the top online votes for the pageant. Ms. Ibe is a graduate of Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature and is a cadet pilot.
