Pasig City Police Starts Wearing Body Cams

Police operatives in Pasig city will now start wearing body cameras during their operations. This will not only serve as protection for them when people accuse them of a misdemeanor but also show transparency to the public.

In a report published by GMA News Online, Eastern Police District director Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula said the use of body cams is in compliance with PNP Chief Director General Ronald Bato de la Rosa's directive. Body cams will allow the PNP to document all police operation and make sure all operations including checkpoint, surveillance, and raid are implemented properly.

48 cameras were procured from the mayor's office and three cameras were given to each of the Police Community Precincts in the city. The remaining cameras will be sent to the Special Reaction Unit, said EPD.

Police in Pasig city is the first to implement the directive of PNP Chief Dela Rosa. Sapitula said he encourages Mandaluyong, Marikina and San Juan Police to do the same. This endeavor is in Dela Rosa's assurance to the public of transparency when President Rodrigo Duterte will allow the police again to return to the war on drugs.

“Pipilitin namin na ma-procure ‘yung body camera para i-issue namin sa lahat ng aming anti-drug operatives para kung sila ay mag-conduct ng buy-bust operations, transparent tayo. Kapag mabalik kami sa war on drugs dapat mabili na namin ‘yung aming body camera,” said PNP Chief Dela Rosa.

There are no reports yet when the other cities will also implement Dela Rosa's request but it is assumed it will be soon.
