| No more travel tax when flying from Mindanao and Palawan |
This new order came from the President of the Philippines Rodrigo R. Duterte according to PTV News. It will be granted for a period of 5 years from the date of effectivity which is May 8th of 2018. All the traveler needs to do now is secure their exemption certificate from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority.
There are currently three international airports in Mindanao and this includes Laguindingan International Airport in Misamis Oriental, Zamboanga International Airport in Zamboanga, and Francisco Bangoy International Airport in Davao.
Laguindingan International Airport is Cagayan's main airport and is located in the northern part of Mindanao. It is the counterpart of the international airport in Davao which is located in the southern part.
In Palawan, there are currently 4 existing airports which are Puerto Princesa Airport, Taytay Airport, El Nido Airport and Francisco B. Reyes Airport. Among the four, Puerto Princesa International Airport is probably the most popular.
As for the seaports, there are many international seaports located in Mindanao and Palawan. This includes ports in Zamboanga, Davao, Mindoro, Surigao, Bislig, and a lot more.
The reason for the new memorandum order is to "sustain and accelerate economic development in Mindanao and Palawan" Although it will only be implemented for 5 years, this will truly give Mindanao and Palawan a chance to boost their Tourism, especially to locals.
Now Filipinos are better off traveling to Palawan or Mindanao before heading to Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia as flights from Manila to Palawan can go lower than 500 pesos when bought during seat sale.
