Govt Plans to Build Bridge Linking Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao

President Rodrigo Duterte along with Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez discussed the possibility of building 8 major bridges in the Philippines that will finally link Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. When this happens, this will not only give more transportation options to local commuters but also boost our tourism.

Locals and foreign people no longer need to book a plane or ride a boat to get from Luzon to Visayas, Mindanao and vice versa. All they need is a car and they can explore almost everything in the country. The plan to build 8 major bridge was discussed by the President with Dominguez last month.

According to Dominquez, the planned bridges will be submitted for approval to the Investment Coordination Committee. It will include an 18.2 km bridge that connects the main islands of Luzon to Samar. A 20 km bridge will also be built from Leyte to Mindanao through an underwater tunnel or a long-span overhead bridge. Another 5.7 bridge will also be built to link Guimaras to Panay. Then a 12.3 km bridge to connect Negros and Guimaras, followed by a 1 km bridge to link Lapinig island to Bohol. Another major bridge in Lapinig to Leyte that is 18 km long. Then a 5.5 km bridge from Negros to Cebu and lastly a 24.5 km bridge from Bohol to Cebu.

And to make sure everything runs smoothly, the roads that connect to the bridges will also be transformed to complement the new structures. Dominquez said the President is very committed to improving the economic program of the country. He focuses on providing growth to Filipinos, the country's communities and make it a safer and stronger country.

The major bridge project has an estimated cost of 269,19 billion pesos. There are no announcement yet what are the steps needed to be done after ICC approves the plan.
